My Journey to cal Poly's Architecture Program began long before I graduated High School on May 30, 2021.
My Childhood Home near Tyner, Indiana
As a child, i always loved building houses out of Lincoln Logs, Legos, and other blocks. I also liked drawing and crafting, but I was not the best at it. My family works in science and engineering. Like other family members, I was good at math and science. However, unlike my mother, I was not interested in making math and Science my career.
In school, I was always good at math and science. Yet, I also enjoyed art class, and genially loved drawing. Yet, in my high school freshman year, I was not sure what I wanted to do when I grow up. Late in my freshman year, I had to research a math career for Algebra II. I just picked a random career on the poster on the door of my math classroom. It was that of an architect. After doing the project, I decided that architecture might be the right field for me. Since it combines the math and science I am good at with the creativity and design that I love so much.
After I went of to cal Poly San Luis Obispo, there were a lot of things about architecture that I wish I knew before starting college. I will make a post about it later, but I discovered the other layer of architecture. The layer of serving others through architecture. the power to do good through architecture. While this power of architecture places great responsibility, there is a great sense of meaning in life and work that you are doing something for the good of everyone. I was raised with the notion that one must serve society no matter what you do, and Architecture fulfills that need for me.
